The Jamaica Cyber Incident Response Team (JaCIRT) and the Major Organised Crime and Anti-corruption Agency (MOCA) are working with local companies in Jamaica affected by a global IT outage. The outage, one of the largest recent crashes, was caused by an antivirus software update by cybersecurity company CrowdStrike. It impacted a range of global industries, including airlines, banks, and TV stations.
The issue specifically affects Windows-based systems using CrowdStrike's Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) software, with Mac and Linux systems remaining unaffected. CrowdStrike has identified the problem and deployed a solution. The government urges affected entities to follow official guidance and avoid malicious URLs circulating online. JaCIRT and MOCA continue their collaboration with businesses to mitigate the impact and facilitate recovery.
