While cybersecurity is designed to protect systems from digital threats such as hacking, malware, and ransomware, physical security is just as important in protecting infrastructure and systems from physical threats like unauthorized access, theft, or sabotage. Cybersecurity measures can be bypassed if an attacker gains physical access to critical systems, allowing them to manipulate data or disrupt operations.
In many cases, physical and cyber threats are interconnected. For instance, an intruder may physically breach a facility to install malicious software or steal sensitive equipment. By securing both the physical and digital domains, we can protect our assets from a wider range of potential risks.
Securing critical infrastructure requires a holistic approach. Physical security cannot stand alone, just as cybersecurity cannot operate in isolation. The CIRT Division works closely with governments, industries, law enforcement, and security agencies to ensure that both physical and digital defenses are synchronized, comprehensive, and capable of addressing evolving threats.
